MOB: with white sails.

1 Shout MOB loud
2 Allocate person to spot MOB
3 Press MOB Button on GPS
3a If Dark deploy Throwing Torch followed by Dan buoy
4 Blow Vang
5 Bring the boat onto a beat
6 Tack the boat and heave to (don’t tack the jib)
7 Get people on deck appropriately dressed including PPE
8 Brief everyone on the situation
9 Ensure the following posts are manned:
  a. Jib sheet
b. Main sheet
c. Halyards
d. Someone to get the boathook
e. Prepare dan bouy (If not already deployed)
f. Prepare throwing line
10 Pass radio message
    PAN PAN – If recovery is manageable
    MAYDAY MAYDAY – If recovery difficult or at night
11 Check that are no lines over the side
12 Start engine out of gear
13 When boat has been organised ,bear away onto a run
14 Once on the run drop the jib
15 Gybe or wear ship
16 Head onto a reach back towards MOB
17 Head up and stop alongside with MOB to windward
18 Recover MOB using boathook / throwing line etc.
19 Once MOB is captured, drop the mainsail
20 Recover MOB, if rough use lifesling
21 If you miss MOB – deploy danbuoy/throwing line and go around again

MOB: With Spinnaker Up.

e. Two persons to gather spinnaker on foredeck

Blow Vang

Luff up onto a fetch, easing guy to just off the forestay

7

Ease pole onto deck

8

Have 2 on foredeck to gather spinnaker

Before you lose way, pass through head to wind until wind 15˚ off opposite bow and drop the spinnaker

Complete tack and feather to windward on new tack

Get people on deck appropriately dressed including PPE

12

Brief everyone on the situation

Pass radio message

 

 

PAN PAN – If recovery is manageable

 

 

MAYDAY MAYDAY – If recovery difficult or at night

Start engine out of gear

15

Check that are no lines over the side

16

Decide to recover MOB under sail or engine

17

Head up and stop alongside with MOB to windward

18

Recover MOB using boathook / throwing line etc.

19

Once MOB is captured, drop the mainsail

20

Recover MOB, if rough use lifesling

21

If you miss MOB – deploy danbuoy/throwing line and go around again

 

Consider square search if visual contact has been lost
