Mountains!
Festinas crew have just treated themselves to 2 days in the mountains . The Sierra de Grazalema is a place of Eagles , Ibex and sore muscles for truly we are not as fit as we used to be and our days of 20 km yomps in the mountains are probably past! What really brought this home was the fact that our visit coincided with a triathalon event. Two hundred superbly fit young men cycled 90 km from Cadiz , up to a pass at 2300 m , then down to a reservoir where they swam 2 km , followed by a 21 km run ending back up at the astonishing little hill town of Zahara de la Sierra , perched on the side of a cliff. Magnificent – and humbling. We managed about 10 Km a day – admittedly most of it vertical – but we had wilderness and solitude and wonderful views – plus a lovely little white painted town in which to recuperate with drinks and ice cream.
